Abstracts from the Canadian Consensus Conference on Dementia

Hello all! The editorial board of the Canadian Geriatrics Journal is delighted to present the research abstracts from the 7 th Canadian Consensus Conference on Dementia, which just wrapped up in Vancouver. Both as a member of the CCD executive and as editor of the CGJ, I am pleased to help disseminate the latest in Canadian dementia-related research. Additionally, this issue contains a number of original articles covering a wide range of gerontological topics. Dr. Heckman examines the value of admission clinical data in diagnosing heart failure in the long-term care setting. The role of low Vitamin D levels and delirium is examined in an intriguing retrospective cross-sectional study by Dr. Ford. Drs. Heckman, Molnar, and Lee have written a comprehensive opinion piece examining the potential role geriatric medicine providers can play in the redesign of the Canadian medical system to meet increased fiscal pressures. As well, a qualitative analysis of the role of support services in reducing social isolation in socially-disadvantaged urban older adults is presented by Dr. Ngygen. This is our last publication for 2013. Once again my associate editor Dr. Mark Rapoport and I would like to thank the membership of the Canadian Geriatrics Society for their continued support of our Journal. It is due to the selfless contributions of the CGS membership that we can continue to promote gerontological research in Canada.
